Abstract
Point counts are used to monitor birds in primarily forested
habitats. The data are used to assess management effects
(landscape factors affecting cowbird parasitism, effects of partial-cut
timber harvest); also the effects of forest restoration on wildlife (in
progress).
Purpose
To determine: 1) the status and long-term trends of common species; 2) the habitat associations for all diurnal (primarily forest) landbirds detected through point counts; 3) the effects of specific management practices on the abundance of selected bird species, through one-year studies targeted on one specific management practice, in alternating years with Level 1) monitoring.
